Singer/Songwriter Eugene McGuinness Stars In Our David Lynch-Inspired Homage To The Underworld Of Las Vegas

http://magazine.topman.com/issue-4/the-ghosts-of-las-vegas#

Taking his cues from the films of David Lynch and Vertigo-era Hitchcock our editor John-Paul Pryor decided to dream up a ghostly homage to the seedy hotel rooms of Las Vegas for this desert-themed issue, featuring the uniquely talented singer/songwriter Eugene McGuinness (whose personal style means he often looks as if he could have stepped out of an episode of Mad Men). It seemed only sensible then to call once more upon the magical talents of the Icelandic image-maker Saga Sig (Dazed & Confused, i-D, Salve Regina), and the incredible eye of fast-rising stylist David Motta (Oyster, Vision, ilovefakemagazine) to make the fantasy a reality. Shooting in the ultra-modern boutique Trafalgar Hotel, London we recreated the dreamlike feel of Twin Peaks, and enlisted the help of our two of the hottest new faces at international modelling agencies to be our spirit creatures. In our story, Eugene McGuinness answers a mystery phone call in the witching hour, and summons two ghosts of 1930s Vegas into his colour-saturated present. “I love the look of Hitchcock films – the colour, the hair, the suits, the cities… It’s cool to get some shots done with that world in mind,” says McGuinness of the shoot. “Cinema is as big a thing for me as anybody else, l love a bit of drama. I like the style of Michael Caine, Peter Cook, even. The way we dress can be an expression of how we see ourselves – or want to see ourselves. I suppose I’d like to be seen as quite a smart young man… who quite likes Hitchcock and The Beatles.

Eugene McGuinness’s new single “Shotgun” is released on Domino Records on March 26
