What makes us unique may come across as kitsch, quirky, in bad taste or an acquired taste to outsiders. The pages that follow are not simply a fashion feature: they are a study of characters, an essay on idiosyncrasies, a testament to the multiple identities that a city, a country — in this case, Great Britain, which serves as the backdrop, with its typical shopfronts — can embrace, in all their vibrancy, peculiarities and, yes, style. Communities that emerge and come together in a melting pot of tribes, simultaneously blending and distinguishing themselves from one another, dictating everyday attire and settings, in a symbiosis between the individual and the collective. For what makes us unique, as part of the whole, is what makes up the whole, as the world. And that may involve humour, but it is also love — for identity, for the very core of who we are.
