The highlight of this past weekend’s opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics was the fashion!  It was definitely the largest runway for some of the world’s top designers.  Italy proudly wore Prada and Georgio Armani.  Team San Marino on Italy’s Adriatic Coast was seen in Salvatore Ferragamo.  Great Britain sported Stella McCartney.  The French equestrian team will be donning Hermes riding jackets. And Team USA wore none other than Ralph Lauren.  But the designer who seems to be making the biggest impression is Cedella Marley.
The Jamaican team is in the spotlight at the 2012 Olympics because of sprinter Usain Bolt, a 5-time World and 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist.  Now its uniforms are taking centre stage as well!  The daughter of legendary singer Bob Marley, in collaboration with Puma, designed Team Jamaica’s eye-popping uniform of black, green and yellow – the national colours – and lightning-like prints.  The Examiner referred to it as rather remarkable.  TheBoston Globe said she took the opportunity to push the limits of traditional opening ceremony uniforms.   And as an Associated Press article stated, those styles were recently modelled by Bolt at a London catwalk – and Mehron was right there with him!

Last month the Jamaica Olympic Association and Puma launched the Jamaican Team uniforms for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.  For this true fashion runway event, stylist Darren Agyei-Dua wanted to do something to highlight Bolt’s gold medal status. So he had Mehron Gold Metallic Powder sent special delivery for incorporation into the models’ hairstyles.  Gold for gold – so perfect!  To achieve a straight line, he first applied tape, then mixed the Gold Metallic Powder with our Mixing Liquid and applied the mixture over it with a brush.
